Weekend photo work.
Is it really work, though, if you’re having a phat time doing it? Anyway, I’ve been away at a workshop, so my apologies for the blog silence. At the workshop, I had a fantastic time connecting with folks, photographing and learning from AND meeting amazing Santa Monica-based photographer, Christa Meola. I gravitate towards helpful, encouraging, positive, vibrant people - Christa is...

miPhoneography 2.
I think miPhoneography might have to be a regular feature here. It’s so fun. In light of my first solo long drive this Friday passed, the theme – cars.

The ABCs of posters.
This is a simple question of which poster to purchase. Jason Dean’s A-Z Poster:
or Jessica Hische’s Daily Drop Cap Poster:
The A-Z concept is clever, making use of identities we all know (or should know, anyway). The Drop Cap evokes nostalgia and is a nice nod to the earlier days of book design. Drop Cap is $225. A-Z is $50. Logos? Drop caps? Decisions.

Something I re-found.
Enjoy your weekends, folks. See you in a few, Miss Meola…

Advanced Style
Ari Seth Cohen roams the streets looking for New York’s most stylish and creative older folks. His blog is similar to The Sartorialist, with a mature theme. While I may not live and breathe fashion, I have the greatest respect for folks whose personal style ages gracefully with them. It’s what I’m shooting for – these people reaffirm why.
Thanks for bringing us this work, Ari....

I’m afraid I’m enjoying this way too much…

Graffiti Markup Language
This may interest some of you Graff heads out there. #000000book.com is an open database for Graffiti Markup Language (GML) files. I personally never got into graffiti writing when I was a young boy, but I always admired the artistry (when the writing was good), the guts and the methods the writers and bombers used to “get up”. I still do, actually.

Matt Brown: The Sequel.
Yes, I know I already posted about Matt Brown. But after digging a little bit deeper into his blog, I found this slant-ruled notebook. “Good if you have to write in a tight spot”, he writes. However, I’m left-handed, so this could not be more perfect. Project is 50% done - hurry up, some of us Lefties need it.
Pants for kids and parents.
An idea by Matt Brown:
Translated: Wouldn’t it be nice if they made pants that parents can wear, but for kids to use?
This project is 5% complete. I wish though, that it was 5% complete about 9 years ago.

Clever concept by icon designer, Igor “Rogix” Udushlivy.
Handmade CMYK.
I have the deepest respect for artists who hand craft their art. Evelin Kasikov, London-based artist and designer, is no exception. In 2006, she began transforming printing processes into handmade cross-stitch embroidery. Her work is “influenced by craft, but still retains the context of graphic design”. Pick-me-up.

This past weekend, I made a trip down to Southern California. I brought 2 cameras with me: a digital and a film SLR. The strange thing is, I found myself shooting more with my iPhone’s camera than anything else.
I didn’t feel like dealing with the heavy DSLR.
I wanted to view my photos immediately after taking them, without dealing with the DSLR’s weight.
The main reason is...

Inspiration.
To the small lot of you who have indulged me by visiting this blog; first of all, thank you.
Secondly, if you notice the variety of images, videos, links, etc. that I post here, and wonder why I seem scattered, it’s because…I am. Well, partly.
To quote Stefan Sagmeister: “Inspiration should never come from your own medium.” I couldn’t agree more. Whether or not...

New Apple Retail Stores →
Sadly, I found this via Future Blog, and not the local paper:
All of you Mac-obsessors can now obsess about something new… “The first new store design will be in downtown Palo Alto, near one they opened in 2001. According to the Silicon Valley Mercury News: The facade will be entirely transparent at ground level, vast skylights will flood the store with natural light, and trees will grow inside,...

We Can Be Heroes. Or Not.
viafrank:
Alex Payne, in Don’t Be A Hero:
If someone is working at four in the morning, something is deeply wrong. Figure out what’s broken and delegate the work out evenly across your team such that it doesn’t happen again. Don’t pat your hero on the back for “pulling another late-nighter”.

Frank Chimero on Iteration... →
A few of Frank Chimero’s blog posts was all it took for me to add it to my RSS feed list. So far, I’ve not been disappointed. His blog is a fantastic source of inspiration and insight into matters of the creative, regardless of which discipline. Pick-me-up.

Vintage Ad Browser. Self-explanatory... →
I discovered this website via Swissmiss, and with great timing too. On the rare occasion I actually watch a football game, a Pepsi TV spot promoting Throwback Pepsi airs. “Made with real sugar” it said. “Cool”, I thought. Then I heard “Available for a limited time”, to which I thought, “Really. Limited time?” Shouldn’t Pepsi always be made with...
